Dick Holt is a product of the Panama Canal Zone school system through his freshman year in high school. He attended Gatun Elementary School, Gamboa Elementary School, Balboa Junior High School, and Balboa High School ('52). He transferred in his sophomore year to Wheaton Academy, Wheaton, Illinois from which he graduated in 1952.
Dick went on to Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois from which he graduated in 1956 as a Physics major. He was the cadet Brigade Commander of the 600 man student brigade, and was a Distinguised Military Graduate in the ROTC Program.
During his college years Dick was a varsity football player, co-captain and most valuable player in his senior year and was chosen as a tackle on both the offense and defense teams on the All-American team in 1955. He was selected to play in a post-season bowl game of which he was named on the All-bowl team. A contract offer from the Baltimore Colts that year was negated by his prior acceptance of a Regular Army Commission after graduation.
As is to be pointed out in the following sections covering his military years, the Army gave him additional education in guided missile technology, communications systems of every type in the military. He had a chance to experience management positions well beyond his chronological years which served him well later in his career.
